Dangerous highways

Highways are made more dangerous by trucks.  Their mass and weight causes them to have great inertia.  We must share the road with trucks, but there are a few things we can do to avoid an accident with a truck.  Here are a list of observations I have accrued over 25 years of representing those involved in truck accidents.

1.    Always make sure that you are able to escape the path of a truck while driving.  The typical examples are never travel along side a truck.  Instead travel behind or ahead of it.  This avoids the truck lane change accident we often see occur on a highway.
2.    Make sure that you do not change lanes into the lane occupied by a truck unless you have at least one car lengths for every 5 miles per hour.  Remember trucks cannot stop as quickly as autos, and if you need to stop for any reason as you change lanes, the truck will often rear end you.
3.    Make sure that you are not victim to a run away truck.  These accidents occur when the truck crosses the road, or loses a trailer while operating in a lane.  Instead make sure that you have a way to avoid these obstacles as you drive.  Defensive driving will better prepare you to avoid a collision in this type of accident.
4.    Do not operate a car close to a truck in really bad weather.  Whether following a truck or having one follow you, it is usually a cause of collisions and therefore should be avoided.
5.    If you do have a truck collision, make sure you exit your vehicle quickly to avoid further injury from fire or explosion.  Also passing motorists will occasionally become involved in your collision, so it is better to get to the side of the road.

Truck accidents are a cause of serious injury and therefore should be carefully avoided for your health and that of your family.  Of course if you cannot avoid a collision and have injury, get help form a qualified personal injury attorney, one that specializes in truck accidents.  This site will provide you with a lot of useful information, so feel free to review the articles on safety, injury and your rights.  If you would like, you can also ask for the many free books and articles we off on how to find a qualified lawyer, how to manage your case and some of our other specialties in law by visiting our complete California personal injury lawyer website.  If you are a victim of an accident on this stretch of road, contact us at 1 888 752-7474..
